Um eine exakte Analyse des Edelmetallanteils zu erhalten, wird der Barren an zwei Stellen angebohrt.
Die Bohrspäne werden nun exakt gewogen und in einer A- und B-Probe mit Silber quartiert, mit einer angemessenen Menge Blei vermengt und in einer „Magnesitkapelle“ erhitzt. Durch die entstandene Hitze werden die enthaltenen „Unedelmetalle“ mit dem Blei von der „Magnesitkapelle“ aufgenommen, während der Rest als Oxid verdampft. Am Ende des Prozesses bleibt das reine Edelmetall in Form einer Kugel übrig. Mittels Salpetersäure-Behandlung werden jetzt die anderen Edelmetalle vom Gold getrennt. Nun erfolgt eine genaue Bestimmung der anderen noch enthaltenen Edelmetalle, mittels Spektralanalyse.
